Developmental Milestones at 12 months and 15 months

12 months

  • Start playing games with you
  • Waves for ‘bye bye’
  • Call parents as “mama”, “dada”, or names (makes meaningful words)
  • Understands the idea of “no”
  • Pointing at objects
  • Respond to own name
  • Able to put objects (toys, blocks in a box) into a container.
  • Looks for things he/she sees you hide (behind the body/ under the blanket etc.)
  • Pulls up to stand from a sitting position
  • Walks while holding onto the furniture
  • Start drinking from a cup without a lid with assistance
  • May start helping to turn the pages of a book
  • May start throwing small objects (balls, blocks)
  • Picks small objects (small pieces of food/ snack) up with his/her thumb and pointer (second) finger.

15 months

  • Claps when getting excited/ happy
  • Hugs stuffed animals/ toys
  • Shows affection towards others (kisses, hugs, cuddles etc)
  • Copies other while playing (e.g. taking toys out from the box)
  • Attempts to say 1-2 words “ba” for “ball”
  • Follows directions given with gestures and words
  • Points to ask for objects or get help
  • Looks at familiar objects when it is named
  • Attempts to use object functionally (flipping pages through a book, carrying liquid with a cup, talking to a phone etc.)
  • Shows interest in pictures.
  • Stacks at least two objects (blocks)
  • Takes 2-3 steps on his/her own
  • Feeds him/herself some food with his/her fingers

 

Continue with the 12 months milestones if not yet achieved:
